One of the New RC Soaring Digest’s stated editorial goals for 2022 is to look far and wide for stories that underscore the global footprint of RC soaring — and clearly articulate that the clean, green nature of our sport/hobby has great appeal in virtually every part of the world. In this month’s issue we have hit another jackpot: new contributor Yavuz Dal has sent in a wonderful, richly illustrated story about the soaring scene in Türkiye. We won’t steal any of Yavuz’s thunder, but the highlights include great participation rates, custom designs to cater to the specific needs of their club and gorgeous countryside over which to fly. You’ll definitely want to tune in — you may just end up adding this fascinating part of the world to your ‘must soar someday’ bucket list.

Also Coming Up in the Next Issue

There’s lots more in the August issue to tempt you: Vincent de Bode is back with Part II of The Slingsby King Kite as is Raymond Esveldt with My Slope Flying Sojourn in the UK where he reports about his recent trip to the ‘sceptred isle’. Also, we’re bringing back another classic soaring author, Martin Simons, with excepts from his books curated by Peter Scott. New contributor Raymond Wright is journalling about his journey into the GPS Triangle world — a series perfectly suited to beginners in this rapidly growing area of interest.

In our Ongoing Series section, we have the next instalment of the Soaring the Sky Podcast, another of Peter Scott’s Electricity for Model Flyers, a new Club in Focus and the latest time- and money-saving tip from Tom Broeski.

In Retrospectives, Chris Williams has another ripping yarn for readers and Waid Reynolds is also back with the The Saga of the Sperry Special. Simine Short has another of her very popular Stamps That Tell a Story pieces and we have the third in our series of Glider Patents.

We have some new Letters to the Editor, some industry news as well as (hopefully) some Cool New Stuff. And, as usual, we have our bookends: In The Air and The Trailing Edge. Finally, like we always say, there might also be a few last minute surprises — but for those, you will have to wait ’til the new issue is out!

What’s New in The RCSD Shop

Introducing the RCSD Retro Logo Polo Shirt.

Combine style and class with our brand new RCSD Retro Logo Polo Shirt. It features the beautifully embroidered logo reminiscent of the early RCSD logo created by the late Robert ‘Bob’ Rondeau. Bob was the Graphics and Art Director for RCSD when the logo first appeared on the cover of the January, 1985 issue. It’s available in five great colours.

And here’s a special introductory offer exclusively for Lift over Drag readers: free shipping (!) anywhere through the end of July 2022. Just enter code LD202208 at checkout. This offer available once per customer.

Thanks to the pre-shrunk fabric, the shirt will maintain its shape after washing. This elegant shirt features 100% ring-spun cotton pique (except Sport Grey which is 90% ring-spun cotton pique, 10% polyester); fabric weight: 6.3 oz/yd² (213.6 g/m²); pre-shrunk and quarter-turned fabric; contoured welt collar and cuffs; double-needle bottom hem; three wood-tone buttons on a clean-finished placket with a reinforced box; blank product sourced from Guatemala.

This product is made especially for you as soon as you place an order, which is why it takes us a bit longer to deliver it to you. Making products on demand instead of in bulk helps reduce overproduction, so thank you for making thoughtful purchasing decisions and helping to support the New RCSD!
