How do I add letters from the Greek alphabet into a document?

Setting aside whatever method your computer hardware may or may not have for generating these special characters, you can always simply copy/paste these characters into your document for the examples provided immediate below:

Α α — Β β — Γ γ — Δ δ — Ε ε — Ζ ζ — Η η — Θ θ — Ι ι — Κ κ — Λ λ — Μ μ — Ν ν — Ξ ξ — Ο ο — Π π — Ρ ρ — Σ σ/ς — Τ τ — Υ υ — Φ φ — Χ χ — Ψ ψ — Ω ω

Of course, once you have copied the character once into your article, you can simply copy/paste it within that document as many times as you need it. It’s not a perfect solution but it is one which is pretty much guaranteed to work under virtually all circumstances.

Is the New RC Soaring Digest available as a PDF?

While it seems like a straightforward question, it is necessary to provide a somewhat complicated answer:

When the decision was made to launch the New RC Soaring Digest, a cornerstone of the strategy is that it would be a ‘digital first’ publication — one that is primarily intended to be read online with a desktop, laptop, tablet or phone. While there are a number of reasons for this, first amongst these is the opportunity to enrich the content with video, sound, large format PDFs (great for full-size plans) and even more kinds of media. What’s more, we wanted the freedom for authors to commingle all these different types of media in a single article so they are very close at hand for the reader. What this means is any PDF equivalent of an article which embraces these alternative media will be a fundamentally compromised document: the rich content in the article will display as static frames, at best. It’s even conceivable the article will not make sense without the rich content.

However, we add links to the end of each article which allows the reader to request a version of the document in PDF format. These are typically available within a few days of the digital version going live. These PDFs will contain all of the text, most of the images but not much other than that. Please give it a try and see what you think.

We continually evaluate the popularity of the PDF option, and let that govern whether we continue to offer that service. If demand dries up, we will be inclined to wind down their use entirely. On the other hand, if sufficiently popular, we may even consider an enhanced PDF format. It won’t be the works of art Bill and Bunny Kuhlman routinely produced over the years, but these enhanced PDFs could potentially be quite an improvement over this initial level of PDF quality we have rolled out. Please let us know what you think. We will be listening carefully to what you say on the subject.

Of course, the comments above do not apply to the fabulous archive of back issues of RCSD — every issue from 1984 though 2018 is available as a freely downloadable PDF. It’s a real treasure of which we encourage all readers to take advantage.
