Corona Diary (April 26-May 2)
Like everyone, we are currently experiencing challenging times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Regardless of our nationality, age, or cultural practices, social distancing has rapidly become the norm. The following is a weekly series of thoughts and experiences across five different cities and countries, in the hope of making connections and distinctions in a strange and uncertain time.

A tragedy depicting corruption in this country: a train went off the tracks and caused a terrible accident.
This speaks once again about how much corruption still happens in all layers of government, and how responsibility is evaded within circles of power. Who is accountable for such accidents? No one wants to admit their role, while we all know that things like this are not accidents but State corruption.

We had our first office happy hour this week. Everyone in the office has had both their vaccine shots, and things can finally start getting back to normal. We headed out to Crompton Ale House in Chelsea and four of us enjoyed some beers on Friday. That weekend, I also made a Filipino dish called Kare Kare, which translates to curd and curry. It actually turned out much better than the last time I tried.
The US will begin to restrict travel from India on May 4th in light of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases and the spread of new variants. There will be some exemptions, but for the most part, the Biden Administration is following recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. India continues to break COVID-19 records with 400,000 new cases in a single day. The US will continue to administer aid. Some places you can help are listed below.
