Did you watch a great movie this week that left you encouraged and energized? Sitting in a theater or on the couch, I’ll bet you spent a couple of hours watching characters interact and conflict and, hopefully, resolve those conflicts to lead to a better ending.

That’s the script/story-writing formula: Three acts that introduce, challenge, and redeem the characters. We leave the theater ready to tackle the world when the story is done right.

Often, today’s movies fail to follow this trajectory. Have you ever left the theater and thought, “What was that about?” It leads to films with less hope. In the theater, we’re out twenty bucks.
