Want to Live a Life Filled With Wonder? Don’t Think So Fast!
Profound life strategies from a rather unlikely source… the video game industry
In the stillness of contemplation or while gazing upon the beauty of nature, have you ever felt a sudden insight, an internal spark of brilliance capable of reshaping the world? I believe that within our minds, through the universe, or by Providence, there lies a boundless wellspring of inspiration and wonder, offering the potential for transformative opportunities. All too often, we miss those wondrous moments.
I think I can show you why… through a rather unlikely source.
Life profundity from the video game industry
When a video game company creates a new digital racing game incredible attention goes into developing its physics, gameplay, and graphics. Apart from perfecting the look and function of the myriad racing cars on the digitized track at Le Mans, the surrounding environment is crafted with increasingly-realistic artistry.
The artist (or artists) responsible etch beauty and wonder into their game, perfecting their sky, sunrise, and sunset renderings.
These backdrop renderings are amazing digital spectacles, rich with vibrancy and realism.
And most of the time, we don’t even see them.
Why?
They aren’t central to our gameplay.
They may accentuate the race, but they aren’t the focus.
Winning is.
To win, we push our vehicles to their maximum threshold, callously circumnavigate the other drivers, and remain focused on “survival of the fittest” success.
In the video game racing world, we rarely contemplate. We don’t ponder. We just play to win.
How many of us live life in the same way? We don’t just play to win; we work to win; we date to win; we engage in our relationships with others… to win. We call it something different in the real world.
