This month we’ll take a look at more of the design trends you may have noticed popping up around the web. Dribbble, Behance, and other design communities have been overflowing with this type of work recently.

Dimensional Flat Design

Flat design has been the big thing for a while now. Recently, however, designers have been finding ways to reintroduce an element of depth to their work. Google’s Material Design played a big role in kicking off this concept. Subtle shadows and overlapping elements can cause objects on the screen to appear three-dimensional, and with the right application, this style can look gorgeous.

Enhancing UX through animations

Emerging CSS animation techniques along with wider support for things like SVGs have allowed designers to start thinking more critically about how a user interacts with their UI. Creating a simple on/off state for a button hover isn’t impressive by itself anymore—as designers we need to be considering how that hover state makes it’s entrance onto the digital canvas.

Stripe’s main navigation utilizes 3D CSS transformations.
The InSymbiosis home page uses extensive interactive animations, creating an engaging page that is fun to explore.
Taptaro utilizes a clever hover effect to illustrate the functionality of their product.

Both of the trends we’ve looked at work well when applied together, as Stripe’s site in particular shows. We’re excited to see how these techniques evolve and mature throughout 2017. If you’ve noticed other trends that you think we should explore, leave a comment and tell us whats up.

Stuff we’ve launched

Check out the new brand and website for IMMERSE, Orlando’s most exciting annual performing arts event. We had the opportunity to completely revamp the identity for the event, working with it’s founder to overhaul everything all the way up to the name itself. See more about this project here.
