Each month we’re taking on a challenge to design an alternative movie poster to a film we enjoyed watching while briefly talking about what we did and didn’t like about the film (without spoilers).

This month’s feature is Synchronicity by Jacob Gentry. I’d say one big prerequisite for enjoying this film would be that you have interest in some theoretical science. This film delves into science based in time travel, wormholes, and singularities. The film also delves in a little deeper than Back to the Future, so be ready to puzzle together this mind bender.

The visuals used in this poster were meant to show an abstract version of a wormhole. Throughout Synchronicity the events the main character goes through are correlated to 2 to 5 second transitions of what looks like a blurred sclera and pupil from a human eye. It’s abstract imagery conveys a wormhole or singularity collapsing in on itself.

The structure and symbology of those transitions led the way with this movie poster. The themes of the story and it’s correlation with the main character and transitions were some of the most interesting parts in my opinion.

The typography also contains some subtle symbolism. I turned the text into an anaglyph, separating out and distorting it’s colors. This reflects the characters journey through the film and how one path exceeds the previous and reveals more.

If you haven’t seen Synchronicity, and you love Sci-fi, then I’d definitely recommend it. The film also has a killer soundtrack by Ben Lovett.

Look out for next month’s feature!
