Each month we’re taking on a challenge to design an alternative movie poster to a film we enjoyed watching while briefly talking about what we did and didn’t like about the film (without spoilers).

Movie Poster Concept — The Neon Demon

The Neon Demon

This month’s feature is “The Neon Demon” by Nicholas Winding Refn. I personally liked this film a lot. Maybe I’m biased because of my fandom for Refn’s films in general, but I’d still definitely give this one a watch if you’re into strange perspectives.

Refn’s films usually follow a loose atmospheric narrative that leaves a lot up to the viewer. Character’s intentions are pretty clear in this film unlike a lot of his others, but the transformation of the main character’s intentions is my favorite part.

The film is accompanied by an incredible score from Cliff Martinez, my favorite track was definitely Demon Dance.

The movie poster utilizes multiple frames of a particular scene in the film overlapped on each other. The frames show the transition between her weakest and most courageous moment in the film—her first real steps into the fashion industry. The red circles that blend into the background but stand out on her are a symbolic metaphor for Elle’s character (Jesse). Her natural beauty is the focal point of the film and creates dissonance between herself and other characters.

If you haven’t seen the film I’d definitely recommend it.

Look out for next month’s feature!
