This week we spent a day at Copper Mountain testing and evaluating the Copper Mountain Sherpa App — https://sherpa.coppercolorado.com/ . The app was created by the team at MADE advertising and was designed to increase skier engagement on the mountain. Users hear “pins” that were dropped by other skiers or by the marketing team at Copper Mountain about the ski conditions, history of copper mountain and other relevant information from visitors.

A day of snowboarding didn’t really seem like work. The snow was amazing, our team had a great day on the mountain and we really enjoyed ourselves... it was probably the best day I’ve had at school. I grew up snowboarding in Steamboat Springs, and it’s pretty cool to see other Mountains leveraging technology to enhance the snowboarding experience. Our one day trial of the Sherpa app was enhanced by the beautiful terrain and weather of Coppper Mountain. Again, a day of snowboarding didn’t really seem like work.

The real work began Friday, when we were asked to improve the app and then present our ideas to the product development team at MADE. Standing in a room of your peers and potential employers, we explained that the team at MADE is onto something pretty cool, but needed to refocus their efforts to make the app more user friendly and make the onboarding process more seamless. HA! Who are we… a group of inexperienced students to tell this heavy hitting creative team that their product could be improved?!? And that’s what BDW is all about. BDW is a place to have an opinion and then learn the tools to express and execute that opinion.

Art and Design school takes guts. It takes guts to stand in front of a room and share your opinion with people who may or may not really want to listen to what you have to say. It takes guts to start down a creative path and encourage others to join you. But without taking the risk, you will never know the reward… without taking the first step, you will never cross the finish line. It’s easy to stand on the side lines and play small, but it takes guts to take that first step and move forward your path.

Our presentations were well received.
