Chances are slim

The Buffaloes need to play a better game than they did on Saturday to beat the Utes on Saturday the 25th if they want to go to a bowl game this year.

It was a poor first half that got the Buffs into trouble on Saturday. They held strong the first few defensive series, but soon faded away. The offense couldn’t take advantage of defense holds. For a defense that has been compared to Swiss cheese, the offense really needed put some points on the board. Settling for field goals is less desirable, however, when two of them get blocked it stings a little bit more. To add insult to injury, Montez throws a pick-six just before the half ended. It was very frustrating as a passionate fan.

The second half rolled on to find that there was a different Buffaloes team. The Buffs came out very determined to make this a game. The first few drives, the Buffs came out and shaved the USC lead to 14 points. But then again, the Buffs managed to turn the ball over late in the third quarter. It just was maddening to watch a team that I love, squander away opportunities like that.

The game was noticeably chippy. There were a lot of pushing and shoving involved throughout the game. Too many selfish penalty yards were awarded for unsportsmanlike penalties. The Buffaloes have been so undisciplined this season, giving away countless penalty yards. The black and gold aren’t set up to be giving away free yards and recover from it too many times. It has been an issue all year and we see that they aren’t fairing too well thus far.

I am still a fan, I alway will be. It’s in my blood. I have grown up a Buff. But if I am going to be honest with myself, I’d have to say the chances are slim of seeing a bowl game this season. In comparison to common opponents, Utah lost to USC by one point, Colorado 14 points. Utah lost to Arizona by six, Colorado three. Utah lost to Arizona State by 20, Colorado lost by 11. Utah beat UCLA by 31, Colorado lost by four. It’s a definite toss up. With Colorado on a bye week and Utah heading to Seattle to take on Washington, this may be the time off needed to make a late season push for potential post season.
