Colorado Buffaloes Football

There has been rumbling in the rocky mountains about this years team, but I don’t think its necessary. Many of the magical moments that happened last year, aren’t happening this year for the Buffs. Let’s look back at last year.

Last years Buffs were really playing above their skill level. We had a quarterback in Sefo that wouldn’t die, which inspired the team to play inspired football. That team won the close games that this year just isn’t. It didn’t hurt that last years team was anchored by a solid defense. When you graduate 5 or 6 of your defense to the NFL, you’re bound to have growing pains. It didn’t help that the defensive coordinator that set-up the defense, also went to a conference foe. There were bound to be growing pains, but after a sensational year last year, the Colorado fans want answers.

What makes it so rough this year is that that they are playing all the toughest teams at home this season, Washington. Opening the PAC-12 conference with a red hot Washington team that just might repeat was conference champs is no easy task. Then to encounter a player like Khalil Tate that takes the college world by storm by putting his team on his back and running through practically every team that he’s played, gets a spirited win versus Cal, and end the home season with USC. Not an easy path when they went undefeated at home last year. CU didn’t do itself any favor with a non-conference that was mediocre at best. Add that with a quarterback that is really just getting his feet wet, then this is the results you should’ve expected. Yeah, he beat Oregon in Eugene last year, but that wasn’t a good Oregon team, which launched it’s head coach and defensive coordinator. And if it wasn’t for a couple key defensive plays late in the game, CU would’ve had two consecutive road losses.

I think that the Buffs fanbase still has another couple years until we can extend our chests in pride like the times of McCartney. There are signs of hope for the future, I think MacIntyre is a great coach and will surround himself with the right people. If not, AD Rick George has seen a years of quality coaching and will make the right moves. I just feel bad for senior standout Phillip Lindsay. I am sure that this isn’t the season he wanted to go out on. However, he’d never let that be known. This guy is one of the hardest working players on the team, if not, in all of college football. He is one of only a few in Colorado’s history to have back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons. He is a true leader in the locker room and a fantastic person off the field.

Although there is a lot of sides to this issue, some that I won’t intentionally get into, the future of the Buffs lies in the expectations and the accountability of the players. I have always felt that people like to know whats expected of them and ultimately strive to achieve those goals.
