Six weeks. That’s how long we have to develop and build a public ready prototype for Effugium, our concept for an escape room-bar. I am very excited. The concept for Effugium came from a simple belief, that meaningful relationships inspire happiness. For many people, finding those meaningful relationships can be difficult, especially for someone who has moved to a new place. We have designed Effugium with these people in mind.

Escape Rooms

Escape rooms are a series of live, interactive puzzles and riddles that a small group works together to solve in order to escape a locked room.

They usually have a theme with an accompanying narrative. Some of the more common themes include, Sherlock Holmes, Pirates, Spies, and Mad Scientist but there are many, many more. The puzzles generally consist of hidden objects, clues on how to use them and the puzzles they go with. By nature, escape rooms are a perfect way to break the ice and create good first impressions so that is where we start, but unlike most escape rooms, that is not where we end.

The Bar

Effugium is unique in the way it turns the escape room and bar into one experience. Patrons escape into the bar and the theme is designed to weave the two together. The bar itself is designed to keep the group together, solidifying the good first impression created in the escape room. Group seating with games and dancing with a relaxed atmosphere keep the group together creating ideal opportunity to form lasting connections.

Come to Escape, Escape to Connect

We are currently preparing for our Public Ready Prototype for an early May opening. We have defined the theme and puzzles and now we are in the puzzle build phase and will be prototyping them in the next two weeks. While the space we have prohibits us from serving alcohol, we are going to still simulate the bar environment and this prevents an interesting opportunity to prove our concept. If we can bring people together without the social lubricant of alcohol then our concept will work. I am very excited to build out the prototype and see it come to life.

If you are interested in participating in the Public Ready Prototype in early May email ConnectEffugium@gmail.com.
