Green in the white of winter
looking at biophilic design or a simple desk plant
It is currently 7° F and snowing outside here in Boulder, CO as I write this post. It’s days like this when I truly appreciate my house plants. With less sun light in the winter seasonal depression (SAD) can kick in. Having grow lights for your plants can help with SAD.
Biophilic design is the concept of increasing occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions in building design. Amazon has a great example of this concept at it’s Seattle WA headquarters know simply as The Spheres.
The domes range from three to four stories tall, house 40,000 plants. The primary use of the space is for Amazons employees to take a break and hold meetings.
While this is a impressive work space a simple desk plant can have a big impact on your mood and can increase productivity by up to 15 per cent.
