If You Have Nothing To Say To A Designer…bring up…

If you have nothing to talk about with a designer here is a few helpful conversation starters that could last for hours! Brace yourself.

Typography

The definition of Typography seems so basic, “the style and appearance of printed matter,” but any designer knows that we can talk about typography for hours. Sans Serif, Serif, Cursive, etc. The list can go on for days. Most people don’t know the actual importance of the font face and how it is portrayed. It determines legibility, readability, and relevance. It also can alter moods, tones, , and creativity. Therefore, typography has a lot of depth behind it just not characters in the alphabet.

Mobile First Design

Never heard of it? Well if you want to gain a designer’s trust you should bring it up next time you’re around one. Designers breath, sweat, and bleed Mobile first. Mobile first means that you start your design process off by designing for mobile. Once you have that done, you can easily modify the design for other devices (laptops, ipads, and desktops).

The main reasoning behind this is that if you voluntarily constrain yourself to mobile, you will be forced to make decisions about what is really important, and what you need to focus on. By doing that, you will make decisions that you would never be forced to make when designing for pc first. The result is almost always a focused, cleaner, and more usable design.

Designers are Right Brained People

We are right brain users that means that we see, think and process information in whole, concrete images. We think holistically, big-picture oriented, and ”whole to details” approach.

The left brain thinks in abstract letters, numbers, written words and formulas. Lefty’s are linear thinkers, logical decision-makers, and realists.

Enjoy!
