My relationship with caffeine

I have always associated caffeine with studying or getting work done.

My relationship with coffee started in middle school. It was a relationship of convenience, there was a coffee shop right next to my school and my mom while on her way to work would drop me off an hour or so before the start of school.

I would later go on to learn the dark arts of brewing beans that coffee. While a barista I learned all the ways that can go wrong in the preparation of the prefect shot or cup. I also learned the real magic is in the processes used and the roasting.

Now that I am in grad school

Self care is important no matter where you are in life. Sleep, a healthy diet, exercise, and fun should be part of your day / week. Now that I have established these more into my life I find the “need” for caffeine to be less. With that said I still love a great cup of coffee. The act of making coffe has become a therapeutic ritual. It involves both art and science and a level of control over something. Much of the day is spent on larger projects where the end goal is far out. A cup of coffee is an instant gratification.

Push to the finish line

Late nights and early mornings a kick in my step is appreciated. When there is a looming dead line and it’s late I will have some. I have tried several energy but I didn't care for the taste or the way it made me feel.
