Identify A Problem

When I go to grocery with my mom, it seems that she know everything, like how much rice are enough for our family to eat for a month, how heavy these pork ribs are, etc. My mom definitely has a sense of measure, so that even with out weighing machine or ruler, she can roughly guess the weight, length, height of different things. As for our generation, I haven’t met someone like my mom, who could sense the value of measurements.

Except these base units, I am always curious about nature, like how big is a whale, how small is a hummingbird, or how thick a tree’s trunk can grow. Too many things are out of my reach, since I grew up in a big city and never had a chance to explore nature. I asked people around me and they have the same curiosity, but just like me, they are stuck in this city made up of concrete and steel.

I want people break out the limitation set by geography, time, space to explore and truly feel everything living in this world, no matter it’s live or not. I don’t want them loose sense of this world.

Design A Solution

My initial thought is to create a interactive room to use projector to cast life-size creature or anything people are curious about on a huge empty space which my team set up, so they can actually see them. Let’s imagine: a whale can swim in our studio leisurely and a tyrannosaurus can chase after a small dinosaur in this interactive room.In this space, people can also wear gloves which are embedded with some kind of sensor that enable people to feel the weight of a hummingbird or a eagle.

This is just my initial idea and on Monday I’ll brainstorm with my teammates and keep working on it.
