Passion & Communication
An explanation of my strongest passion using my strongest communication skill…
A few weeks ago we passed a sheet of paper around in class and were instructed to write down two things: our deepest passion and our strongest communication skill. My deepest passion: my family, friends, and making a difference. My strongest communication skill: talking it out. What I didn’t realize: we have to explain our passion using our strongest communication skill.
Let’s start with my chosen communication skill. For as long as I can remember I would describe myself as an extremely transparent person. I wear my heart on my sleeve and say what I feel. Thinking of personal instances in the past, I’ve always been able to speak my mind, even when it’s tough. The ironic part though, I dislike public speaking…a lot. I don’t know what it is, but as soon as there are more than a few people in the room, talking seems difficult. I’m still trying to figure out that particular part of my communication skills, but that’s for another day.
What about my passion? It’s so easy to say the people I care about are my deepest passion because I love them more than the world itself. My parents created me, raised me in a beautiful household, and have helped me become the person I am today.
My sister, my wombmate, she’s the one who always lifts me up. She is the sunshine in anyone’s room and always has a smile on her face. I can easily describe her as the sweetest person you’ll ever meet.
My friends have helped me navigate times I never thought I could get through. For example, after a few years of living out here in Colorado, I had a falling out with one of my best friends from college, the friend I moved out here with. I was completely devastated and didn’t know where to turn to, so I called my friend Graham. Graham was a buddy from college as well, who moved out here about a year after I did. He needed a roommate, so we met up, looked at a place, and moved in two weeks later. Through old friendships, I’ve made more best friends than I could ever imagine. My friends are my family and I am so grateful. I’m also grateful that you all (my dear classmates) are becoming my close friends as well. I know during this next year we’ll learn and grow from one another academically and personally; I can’t wait to share that experience. I hope to make a difference through the work I do and the people I meet and the things I accomplish. I hope that I can help at least one person everyday; that’s my goal.
