The Pandora Game

Confession time. I like to play a weird game. I call it the “Pandora Game.” It sort of works like shaking a Magic 8 ball. I ask Pandora a question, and she tells me the answer by playing a song.

So, let’s say I ask Pandora, “Will I survive this semester?” If she plays, “These Dreams” by Heart, then she is basically laughing in my face, telling me IN YOUR DREAMS. But if she plays, “We Are the Champions” by Queen, then she is telling me I will pull through victoriously. Right now, I feel as though she is leaning towards the former, but I will confirm with her tomorrow.

For this week’s blog, I decided to play a new “Pandora Game.” I put Pandora on shuffle, and made illustrations to reflect the first five songs she played. While this new game required more effort, it was quite therapeutic. Pandora is now my fortune teller and my shrink (and probably my only friend now since I just scared everyone away…) Anyhow, here are the songs and illustrations.

“Just Breathe” — Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam is my favorite band. This song was actually played at my wedding. I made the illustration based on the last line of the song, “Hold me ‘till I die, Meet you on the other side.”

“Run-Around “— Blues Traveler

Blues Traveler plays a mean harmonica. If you combine that with the first list of the song— “Once upon a midnight, dearie,” you get a man playing a harmonica at night.

“In a Little While “— U2

I have a fondness for U2 because it reminds me of long road trips with my dad. This song in particular made me think of time.

“Work Song” — Hozier

Hozier is another personal favorite. I made the illustration to reflect the ‘burning heat’ and ‘cherry tree.’

“Sleepyhead”— Passion Pit

The name of the band, Passion Pit, reminds me of a peach. When you combine that with the name of the song, you get a sleeping peach.
