The Technological Changes That Make Technology Obsolete

Preview: I wrote this short story (because I think I’m funny) as a commentary on the unintended effects new technology has on old technology, and ultimately our lives. Enjoy this brief foray into my scattered mind.

I am no longer of use to the family I serve. Thirteen years I have stood guard, devoting myself to the cause, but for what? I used to be a testament to friends and family, to flowers and gifts of grandeur, but now I lie neglected. It is their technology that makes me obsolete, with a text, a tweet, or a call I am rendered useless. Even the joy bringers, bodies and trucks clad in brown, refuse to acknowledge me. They have taken many pictures of me with the humans packages, but refuse to grant me the touch I need to feel useful. But wait! Could it be? Someone willing to put me out of my misery?

“MOOOOOM DOOOR!” Kelly sighed, getting up from the couch and glaring at her daughter less than five feet from her. “Thanks for that Chelsea…” As Kelly made her way to the front door she tried to remember what she had ordered on Amazon, and when they started ringing the bell again. The door swung open, and Kelly’s eyes widened in horror. “Hi, do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?”
