Combining technology and design with interior design is something that I have always been interested in. How do interior designers design a home on the computer, or do they mainly sketch their ideas?

After doing some research I have found some of the most common tools that interior designers & designers use while at work.

It’s clear that design is moving away from print material such as drawings or sketching to more immersive technology features. Here are some programs I have found most designers love to use

  1. SketchUp, (an app that offers 3D print modules you can choose from)
  2. Olioboard allows you to shop on boards similar to Pinterest, but the products are listed right under the board. Icovia is 2D room planning software for designers. These apps show the buyer a full-color mockup of how the space will look when you’re finished
  3. Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo are both excellent tools from Seri for editing photos. Here are some examples of what you can create with Affinity Designer:

4. Corel Painter 2018 for photographers

5. any designer will need a quality sketchbook and notebook

6. Datacolor Spyder5ELITE mitor calibrator: this program makes sure your screen projects the correct color by monitoring light to alter optimal brightness (important for presenting your designs to clients)

7. Pantone Plus ColorBridge: A swatchbook for storing and viewing color palletes

8. Immersive, interactive marketing. Virtual reality is just a taste of what’s to come. This means designers should get familiar with Javascript, c++, and node to start with.

9. Rapid Prototyping (3D printing)

in order to get familiar with 3D printing you would need to learn CAD. (computer aided design) this is a technology that includes some coding, but easier to understand than Javascript or c++ (I have heard)

10. Adobe Creative Suite

Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and more. Photoshop allows you to edit photos, while illustrator allows you to manipulate objects and create logos + so much more. Indesign is a better version of powerpoint, and not to mention adobe suite offers many more programs such as lightroom to edit photos easily.

So there you have it- the top programs and materials designers use. What will you create?
