Creative marketing is more than just a simple advertisement. It can be found in experiences while walking the streets of New York, at the mall, on the bus, or on the back of someones T-shirt. It includes guerilla marketing, infographics, objects in unordinary places, and messages sent in unexpected ways.

When walking in a city, have you ever looked down to see a message drawn in chalk that is completely breathtaking?

When driving, how many billboards do you remember that were so interesting, they stick in your mind today.

When walking to campus, have you seen a pop up booth that handed you something that you will never forget?

Or an experience that you remember forever?

McDonalds has done this for years. While it might not be everyones favorite place, when it comes to creative advertising- they are doing it right.

Even when I was a child, one of my favorite places was the playground found in McDonalds. I looked forward to going down their long blue slide, playing in the ball pit, and building legos with other children. They have had creative marketing down since before I can even remember what a french fry was. They engrained themselves into our minds since we were a child, grabbed our attention, and never let us forget.

From billboards to chalking, experiences to ads-they have completely nailed it. McDonalds uses everything from chalking to billboard experiences that do more than let you look at an advertisement- they set themselves apart because of one thing, and one thing only. They make you think.

Marketing is more than a message in 2018, it is now an experience.

It is important to think about how you will attract your customers attention through these experiences, and how you will be remembered. Weather it’s handing some a water bottle, having them walk on your chalk masterpiece, or sliding down a built in slide, these tactics all leave a positive experience in your mind.

If you are a retail store, how will you arrange your clothes? Do you want someone to see all styles in all areas, or do you separate them into active wear, club-wear, denim, and sleep wear? Why do you think it would be important to have a little bit of all the styles you carry in all parts of the store?

You have 7 seconds to grab someones attention. How do you do it? In retail stores, this is done by setting up a display window, walking into the store, or looking through the windows. My question to these retail stores in 2018 is how can someone interact with these display windows? Soon enough, you may be able to see yourself holding the newest Louis Vuitton hand bag in the reflection of the window- how does it feel? At H&m, you may soon be able to see the newest arrivals on your body!

These types of creative marketing tactics are done through technology, creative thinking and design. The future holds a wide range of possibilities in creative marketing, and visual experiences are only the start. How will you grab your customers attention?
