Once a Nagpuriyan, Always a Nagpuriyan

Nagpurians’ style have always been unique and exciting. Our attitude or funda always sounds garam. We at Reacho have come up with some typical things that would be a hallmark for a Nagpuri.

1. Cravings of Tarri Poha

The urge for special Tarri Poha is something a true Nagpuri can’t fight. No matter where life has taken you or which ever city you are living in. Your mind and stomach will always take you back to those days. Waking up early in the morning marked the time for “Tarri poha”. You may have tried replicating it and making your own version of it but you never could replicate the delicacy completely.

2. What’s hot for you won’t be hot enough for a Nagpuriyan

Heat is not an issue and it never will bother a true Nagpuri. Why? Because we are used to living in a furnace every summer. We have seen the most excruciating form of hot days most haven't seen or heard of. You will find us chilling on the days you deem as a hot. We truly are chilled out people but wait! We do not like winters. Winter days only doubles the effect and apparently no one can be OK with being so chilled.

3. Cricket Fever at Dharampeth

No one can ever forget the historical nights, when India conquered biggest mountain of cricket and became the world champions in T20…and again in ODIs. Well you may forget how it all came to be but you won’t ever forget the midnight celebration that took place in the centre of the city: Dharampeth. Memory of this epic night will move lips to make it into a smile and that’s a sign which truly defines you as a Nagpuriyan.

4. The troika of cigarette, chai and samosa

Every nook and corner of Nagpur has a small eatery that’s made out of a small portal cheap jack and has a roof made out of tin or a false roof made out of a cloth which covers it all. Nagpuriyans call this mess of a place “Tapri” as it really translates to an eatery built out of nothing but tin. It will have the 3 of the above listed things — cigarette, chai and samosa — as no Tapri can stay relevant in the business without having the combo of these 3 things.

5. When you can’t help but miss Fuatala Lake

You may have travelled the world, seen everything that there is to see but all that would only take you back in the past of the fun times you had being at Futala with your school friends or maybe a girlfriend. Those memories are golden and won’t fade out no matter what you do. If this is still you who misses all the small details and things of the city then, dude you are a Nagpuriyan and you will always be a Nagpuriyan.

These are enlisted as signs in the aforementioned list but they really are not just signs they are embodiment of the city, left in each one of us in form of a remnant of the past which is keeping the spirit of being a Nagpuri alive and well within us.
