What drought did to world, will IPL do the same to Maharashtra?
HC rapped ‘BCCI’ for organizing ‘IPL’ in the regions of Maharashtra, as it is widely known that the state is suffering from the worst possible case of drought. Prolonged absenteeism of rainfall which destroyed the crops and millions across the state were forced to knock on the doors of death. With the upcoming tournament, HC has shown sign of trepidation as water levels are dropping down and maintenance of pitches and grounds requires a significant amount of water.
We don’t know what will be the outcome of this debate but, BCCI should pay heed to the following things that drought has done to the world over the years.
Drought may have set Syria on war path
The war that brewed in Syria has led to dramatic changes in the European regions. Civil war and ISIS are some of the reasons that the place is no longer suitable of harboring life. Is war the reason why things have turned bad from worse? Researchers suggests that drought played a major role in instigating fuel to the fire that ultimately gave rise to a civil war. Devastating level of drought hit Syria back in 2006. Which forced over a million farmers to abandon their farm lands and proceed towards cities or urban regions. This gave rise to tension between the two segments of people and spurred an all out civil war upon the land. Lack of employment and growing tensions due to political social and economical stability destroyed the democracy. Those who migrated from smaller regions formed rebel forces and started agitating against the government. This bloody civil war has already push the death count over 200,000.
Drought hit farmers of India commit suicide
India is witnessing the worst form of drought it has ever seen in past decade. Mostly in the regions of Maharashtra and Vidarbha, tragic changes in climate conditions has inflicted loss in yields which is forcing the farmers to face drought like conditions and thus increasing the burden of debt as destroyed crops has tied their hands and broken their spirits. Deadly combo of heat and lack of rainfall is taking its toll. With no harvest and burden of huge debt, farmers find it hard to break even. Reports suggests that there has been 40% hike in farmer suicides in past year and it is speculated to rise if the Government didn’t take any concrete measures.
Celebrity conflict in California over water
Last year (2015), California saw the worst drought that the state has ever faced in history. Governor Jerry brown declared a drought state of emergency in the state, so as to curb the usage of water and bring the level of water consumption and wastage. Rivers were getting dried up, orchids and trees dying and the overall water level dropped dramatically.
This gave rise to clash with the celebrity population of the state, as it is known that California has been a home to many celebrities.
Regardless of what the state was going through, some celebrities refused to pay any heed to drastic changes and the usage and wastage of water is evident in the following pictures —
Kanye and Kim’s mansion has a dead grassland on the left side while the whole mansion appears to green and swimming pools glittering under the rays of sun, as if nothing is wrong at all with the state.
Jennifer Lopez — who does’t know of this hot blonde singer that gave us hits like Waiting for Tonight , On the Floor etc. But it seems that she definitely doesn't want to wait for the drought to die down.
Apparently drought is only a menace for the world. These big time celebs never really adapted to anything and continued to water their lawns and fill their pools.
Drought hits South Africa
African saw the worst case of drought that it has seen since the year 1982. Reports suggests that over 2.7 million households were struck. The continent has struggled with infrastructure problems and lack of access to remote areas. Restrictions has already been imposed in the capital city of South Africa to reduce the usage and wastage of water resources in the city. Dam’s water levels went down, Provinces of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, free state provinces and KwaZulu-Natal were declared as disaster states.
With the scarcity of water across the globe do you feel its the right move by the High court of Mumbai to ask ‘BCCI’ to keep ‘IPL’ away from Maharashtra as the regions of Marathwada and Vidarbha has been already facing the worst drought of the decade?
