Populist and extremist movements manipulate the media to disseminate untrue or decontextualized information to gain and stay in power and discredit the opposition. In the age of social media, people constantly receive information and news stories on multifarious platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. However, social media companies do not take the responsibility to verify information posted and shared. Technology is one of the reasons why the circulation of fake news increased in the past few years.

As there is no evidence that the tech companies will change their current policies on regulation of content, we believe that individuals like you and me should take action now.
