“Retire into yourself as much as possible. Associate with people who are likely to improve you. Welcome those whom you are capable of improving. The process is a mutual one. People learn as they teach.”Letters form a Stoic:

Personal reflection, helpful company, and the capacity to coach are the cornerstones of modern employee engagement. Good leaders can not only engage others, but take the time to reflect and expand their ideas and strategies. Leaders should never put their nose up at the opportunity to coach, train, and teach.”(http://sambacharach.com/bacharachblog/leader/5-leadership-lessons-from-seneca/ )

This is one of Seneca’s main ideas that he proposed onto the world. William Powers takes an idea like this and uses it in his book Hamelet’s Blackberry to build up his story. Within the first couple of pages he gets to this idea, especially when he says, “When you work for yourself, you have to be your own mental watchdog”.Here this apply’s to what Seneca says above because from Seneca’s idea leaders not only have to be good at inspiring others, but they themselves have to watch over themselves. Powers shows this through the main character by opening his book with this idea. The main character is watching videos on YouTube and realized how he is continuously doing this everyday, and he needs to regulate how much he uses the internet

From this Powers is using this idea from Seneca to tell people to regulate themselves on their use of technology.
