Pick’s disease is a rare form of dementia. Under 5% of dementia cases are Pick’s disease.

I didn’t even know that there were different types of dementia before I learned about Pick’s.

Worldwide, there are currently about 55 million cases of Dementia, with about 10 million new cases every year. Of these, around 50–60,000 of those are Pick’s Dementia.

It’s similar to Alzheimer's, except it only affects a certain part of the brain, the frontal lobe.

Often, as in my dad’s case, Picks disease can overlap with Lewy Body Dementia.

My story

When my dad was around 59 or 60, his mood started to change. He developed somewhat of a short temper, but we called it grumpy old man problems.

But then, he got into a fight at work. That wasn’t like him. He also forgot how to perform simple tasks. He had been a handyman for years but could not remember how to put in a ceiling fan or change a doorknob.

We were getting irritated with him.
