A little reminder for myself and all of you that don’t prioritize yourself....

It’s not just a BPD thing. It’s an empathy thing, too. You give, give, give, and people expect that from you. And when you don’t meet their expectations, they feel that you failed them, and you feel that you failed them.

I’m here to tell you that you can’t give from an empty bucket. Your bucket has to be full in order to give. Your needs must come first... mental, emotional, physical. It’s not being selfish; it’s being responsible and respectful of yourself. It needs to be priority number 1.

If you spend all your time giving, you will get depleted, burned out, and unwell. It’s ok to take. Take time for yourself. Take love and support from others. Give and take should be equal in a relationship. Although, sometimes you give more than you take, and sometimes you take more than you give. Your friends should be doing the same for you.

Yes, your friend needed you. Yes, you wanted to be there. But YOU needed you, and it’s 100% okay to put yourself first.
