Has BBC Taken My Medium Story?
Coincidence or borrowed inspiration? Will I be paid?

Let me walk you through my strange experience while casually flicking through BBC FILMS!!
This is the cheque I did not receive from the BBC!
As I scrolled, the film title caught my eye: ‘PRU’.
For me, PRU signifies “Pupil Referral Unit,” a story I have written about on Medium. I was curious, so I hit play!
A Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) is a specialized school in the UK for students who can’t attend regular school due to various reasons like behavioural issues.
The setting was like the one I had written for Medium. The building even reminded me of the actual building where my event had taken place!
Then, the children mirrored behaviours straight out of my story. It was uncanny; their actions seemed plucked from my writings. They even found their way onto the roof, which I had written in my story. I say story, but these events were all true.

Could the BBC have drawn inspiration from my article? The timing makes it an intriguing possibility.
I was taken aback. They had used my story and where was my payment? It was based in the UK — so very much my story. Had I missed the cheque in the post, the bank transfer? Checking my account, alas, NO!
The story was not quite true. They did have some far-fetched scenes that I knew would never happen- that make me chuckle. For example, the children went on a camping trip to the woods. No, that could never happen!
That would require one adult per child; no PRU could afford that. Plus, the children were left unsupervised in the woods. Nah, that could never happen!
It was nice to know that BBC appreciated my writing and took inspiration from it.
But No…
But alas, I wrote mine in 2023, and this was first aired in 2021.
Well, no lawsuit for copyright for me!
Who would’ve thought that the antics of young people in a PRU would be reflected all across the UK? Why is the behaviour of children in PRU the same all over the UK?
Anyway — it was a good watch — but a little far-fetched! And I will not be compensated.
But you see, friends — you get all the good stuff here. No need for BBC. You get it straight from the source!
