Have Some F*cking Confidence in What You Are Doing
Nobody ever tells you or hits you with a magic wand of legitimacy.
Being an artist is not an easy task; being an artist and feeling like a pro is way harder.
What is it that constantly makes artists feel like scum?
And what are we expecting to happen in order to feel that we are professional?
As Amanda Palmer once said:
“When you are an artist, nobody ever tells you or hits you with a magic wand of legitimacy. You have to hit your own head with your own wand and feel stupid doing it.”
Sometimes showing your work may feel overwhelming; you feel like you are annoying others simply by showing up as yourself.
Don’t.
It’s only embarrassing if you feel embarrassed.
Life is too short for self-sabotaging and hiding.
You are a professional from the very moment you take yourself seriously, from the moment you constantly show up for yourself, from the moment you commit to creativity.
Don’t be afraid to seem like a foolish, delusional beginner; that’s the price to pay in order to be among the masterminds of your craft.
Nobody started as a commonly accepted professional; they decided they were professional, and the world accepted them as such.
However, you shouldn’t strive for anyone’s acceptance anyway.
Art should be the product of love, not a desperate need to fit in.
Do what you love, be real with it, have some f*cking confidence in what you are doing, and sooner or later your art will resonate with the right people.
Just never stop showing up for yourself.
If you’ve reached the end, thank you! Your support means a lot. Feel free to drop a comment and share your thoughts — let’s chit-chat about anything you wish! :)
