Stop Shrinking Yourself to Fit
Sharing your art is nothing to be ashamed of; it is a very generous act.
As artists, we grow up with a sense of shame when it comes to our art.
Society has convinced us that we don’t fit into a world where people work “real jobs” to survive.
This belief is a byproduct of our times.
People work harder than they live; sometimes, they even forget to live. They just pay bills, and they call this life.
That’s why they become bitter when it comes to artists. If they dropped their dreams to take a real job as society convinced them, how dare you keep going after yours?
I have nothing against those people; we all need to survive, and unfortunately, we all have to work irrelevant jobs than the ones we really want to do, so that’s very respectable.
And while it’s okay to have a 9–5, how you treat your 5–9 will determine what you’re going to do in the long run.
The difference between artists and those people is that artists never gave up on their dreams; they never abandoned their calling.
In every spare moment they had, they kept pushing; they kept creating, and they showed up for themselves until this became their career.
They didn’t feel ashamed to take space because they knew their dreams were worth it and that people, even if they can’t admit it, needed their art.
Imagine a world without paintings, books, movies, music, theatre. A world without art.
Those are the things that make life bearable, and if all the artists who ever existed were afraid to take space and show up, the world would now be a colorless, uninterested jail.
Don’t feel ashamed of your art; don’t be apologetic for creating. People need your art even if they don’t admit it; you are very important, and your art is meaningful.
If you’re still showing up for yourself, one day you will be someone’s favorite artist and the reason they will get inspired to also pursue their dreams.
Don’t let society convince you that being an artist isn’t a real job; don’t let them make you compromise for less of a life. You only have one; experience it to the fullest, live it unapologetically.
Be an artist, create, show your art, stop shrinking to fit in society’s standards, take as much space as you can, and then take some more.
Sharing your art is nothing to be ashamed of; it is a very generous act. Be proud of yourself and never stop showing up for your dreams!
