America
America was where all my favourite frocks came from when I was a kid in India in the eighties. My aunt lived there and she would send them.
Bungalow
I’ve lived in these sprawling, echoing homes all my life. My dad was a railway man and the bungalows were part of the deal. These homes were huge and luxurious but our parents made it clear that they were railway property.
Calcutta
After I got married, I would visit Calcutta, my mom and dad’s then home. My dad’s new employer gave him perks like a chauffeured car, a giant bedroom with a bathtub, coconuts from the garden and various dishes from a nearby officer’s mess. Seven golden unexpected years when my dad was called back to work at a railway-related company after retirement.
