Me at my gym beside the dumbbell rack. Author’s image.

After joining the local gym in 2018, I worked as hard as I could at it. However, I couldn’t lift heavy and stayed on weights below 5 kg.

One day, on the decline chest press, I decided to try a heavier weight and asked the trainer to stand behind me to help in case I faltered mid-way.

The heaviest I lift — 7.5 kg or 16.5 lb. Author’s image.

He was ready to jump in to help, but I finished my 15 reps of a the heavier weight I had selected, 7.5 kg, without his assistance.

He said, Shabaash!

Shabaash! is an exclamation that means, “Good job!” or “Bravo!” or “Well done!”

I held that Shabaash to me like a warm pack on a cold day. I remember thinking about it and feeling better about myself when someone said something toxic or depressing.

Which was often.

Mind you, at this point in time, I had been doing stellar work in my dental clinic for nineteen years.

People come to our dental clinic from the nearby towns. I should be saturated with Bravos.

However, I think that one can’t have too many bravos, especially in new fields.
