A New Medium Feature You Probably Didn’t Notice
Now you can see Impressions on your story
Remember a few days ago when everyone’s Medium stats suddenly froze?
I even wrote a story about it, telling you that updates were on the way.
Not long after, Medium sent out a survey asking writers what changes they’d like to see in their stats dashboard.
Well… it looks like those changes have started to roll in.
I’ve noticed two or three small updates in the Medium app (which I won’t go into right now). But today, I want to talk about the most exciting one.
As you can see in the screenshot below, alongside the usual Views, Reads, and Earnings, there’s a new metric: Presentations.
This is something many writers have been asking for.
For those wondering what it means: Presentations is simply the number of impressions your story has received — in other words, how many times it’s been shown to someone in their Medium feed, via email notifications, or push notifications (excluding the daily digest).
It’s a pretty exciting addition.
Why? Because now writers can track not just how many people clicked and read their work, but also how many saw it and decided not to click. That gap can reveal a lot about your headlines, thumbnails, and first few lines.
But here’s the catch…
The numbers don’t seem fully accurate yet. In my case, the impressions are way higher than my views or reads — so high that I find it hard to believe they’re entirely correct.
To me, this feels a little like Medium’s way of saying:
“Hey, we’re showing your work to people… they’re just not clicking.”
Is this a transparency boost or just a way to calm the constant complaints about distribution? I’m still on the fence.
What about you? Have you received this update yet?
Do you think it’s a game-changer or just a shiny new distraction?
Let’s talk in the comments.
