Don’t Ever Wish Someone ‘Happy Belated Birthday’
It says more than you think
I had a notification the other day that it was a friend’s birthday on FB. I duly sent off my ‘Happy Birthday, have a good day’ message to let them know I was thinking of them.
The next day, I saw there were several messages to the same person saying
‘Happy Belated Birthday’
‘Sorry I Missed It’
It made me think, maybe I'm being slightly naive here, but there are reminders on FB. If the person is a friend of yours, how have you missed their birthday?
It's on the same day every year.
So, in order to assuage their guilt, the person who has missed the birthday makes themselves feel better by sending a ‘belated happy birthday message’.
As far as I'm concerned, all that message does is tell the birthday boy or girl;
I was too busy to send you a message on the day. You just aren’t important enough.
But hey, aren’t I thoughtful because I've done it a day later?
I know there could be dozens of reasons why you’d miss a birthday
