Don’t Rule Yourself Out Of The Race Without Even Trying
That’s what I’ve spent years doing
This time last year, after a few weeks of training, I was due to participate in a CFT ( combat fitness test), an eight-mile speed walk with a weighted backpack.
When it came to the day, I didn’t take part because I’d managed to get myself into such a state of anxiety, worrying about whether I'd be able to complete it or not.
I didn’t want to let the other runners down. I didn’t want to let myself down. So, I figured it would be easier to simply not try.
Similarly, I've always considered taking part in a 10k run ( that's all), but somehow consistently manage to talk myself out of it because it’ll be hard. It'll be a challenge.
I've run 5k before plenty of times, but that extra 5k on top is a real mental barrier to me.
I subscribe to receive Tim Denning’s articles. Several times a week, I see Tim’s latest article tells us to commit 100% to our goals and attack them with a passion as if there’s nothing else in our lives.
I read his advice with an unhealthy amount of scepticism and dismiss it out of hand because there’s no way I could ever commit to something so fully.
