Has Someone Ever Made You Question Your Worth?
How I discovered my true worth by building something real beyond my 9-to-5
It was the appraisal season at one of my earlier full-time jobs, I was expecting a decent raise but one sentence from my manager hit me really hard.
During the yearly appraisals — that time of year when your performance is reviewed to determine if you are eligible to earn a few extra thousand bucks each month, my manager sat me down and said something I would never forget:
“Given the amount of experience you have and your valuable contributions, this much hike should be good enough for you. Don’t worry!! All the best. ”
And my mind asked what is that supposed to mean?
You don’t need more money. You should be okay with what you’re getting.
And for a while, I believed him and accepted the raise.
I just thought maybe this was it, the dream job, the dream pay, the dream life. Maybe I had finally climbed high enough on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Maybe this was the upper limit of what I deserved to earn.
