How Rebuilding Our Decking Helped Me Rebuild My Self-Belief
I didn’t think it was possible
Storm Darragh almost blew our fence over in the recent storms.
I know I’ve got to fix it, but I’m finding other things to do.
Why?
I’m not good at fixing things. When I try to fix things or do DIY, it usually goes awry.
I tried to fit a new lock on our front door. I got it so wrong, we couldn’t close the door when I’d finished.
I’ve lost count of the number of times any ‘simple’ DIY project has gone wrong in my hands; wallpapering, painting, assembling flat-pack furniture, putting up blinds, to name a few.
I’m envious of people who can turn their hands to anything and do a good job.
Then, I think, what’s the evidence for me saying I’m no good at fixing things?
I’ve tried a handful of times and it’s gone wrong. It’s not my job.
I try something I’ve never done before and get it wrong. What a surprise.
So, I’ve convinced myself that ‘I’m no good at DIY’ based on limited evidence.
That ‘ no good at DIY’ label is there to cover and to protect me from trying to do anything too demanding.
