The Power of Long-Term Thinking
There are countless paths to achieving your goals, but whichever one you choose, hard work is likely to be a part of the journey.
So here’s something to think about: Why do we often pick the shortest route?
We often believe we’re being clever by taking shortcuts in life. While shortcuts are great for getting from point A to point B when driving, it’s widely understood that in life, there are no real shortcuts. To build a strong body, you need to exercise and eat healthy consistently.
To build a career, you need to develop skills, grow your network, and deliver value. So, where are the shortcuts?
“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” — Beverly Sills
But does working smart means avoiding effort altogether? Not really — you still have to put in the work. Many people focus solely on the short term. For example:
- “How can more money be made this year?”
- “How can a book deal be secured this year?”
- “How can more muscle be built this year?”
- “How can the company’s earnings increase this year?”
- “How can a promotion be achieved as quickly as possible?”
- “How can weight be lost in the next few weeks?”
