In the last 5 years, Service-based companies have started hiring a lot of freshers due to the high demand in tech and they are luring freshers by giving joining bonuses and various other benefits. I’ll tell you 5 Reasons why you should never join a Service based company as a fresher.

In Industry there are two categories of Companies, one is Service-based and the other is product-based. The names themselves speak what they actually are. Service-based companies provide services to their client. For suppose if you have a Retail store and you want an online delivery system you can go to these service-based companies and they’ll make their employees build the delivery system for you.

On the other hand, product-based companies, build their own products and make money out of them by selling them to the end-users.

TCS is an example of a Service-based company and Google is a product-based.

There’s nothing wrong with working for a Service based company if you’ve some experience but you Should never consider joining them as a fresher.

Here are the five reasons Why Shouldn’t

1. Very Less Pay

The starting salary of any service-based company in India is 3.5 Lakhs per Annum(Indian Rupees), which is far less than the average beginner salary in many countries. Some companies even offer much lesser packages than this.

The reason why they do this is, Freshers are easy to hire and you can make them work like hell and they’ll never question. They are making a profit out of the fear freshers have about jobs.

Some companies these days are offering Joining bonuses to make sure that the new hires are joining their companies and those too are very minimal.

The package which you start your career with affects all the upcoming salary hikes. So never settle for less.

2. Fewer Salary Hikes.

In a Service-based, the maximum Salary hike you can ever get will not be more than 10–12% of your existing salary and with that amount of hike, it’ll take ages for you to double your salary.

There’ll be a lot of internal politics involved in the appraisal process and you can never beat them. There’ll be less budget for the projects allocated and with that, no single project can have two-star performers. There’ll be a lot of internal policies which will stop you from getting more hikes.

And getting promoted because of your good performance is a dream and it happens only to a few employees.

3. Support Work.

Most of the projects in a Service-based company will be Support work. If you get into a development project, then consider yourself lucky.

Once you get allocated to a project and if you don’t like work, you won’t be able to get out of the project that easily. You’ve to literally fight with your manager to get released from your current project.

4.No Mentorship.

Everyone working in a Service based company will be already fed up with the nature of work and no one will show interest in guiding and helping you. So never expect guidance and help from your seniors and if you get to meet anyone like that you are damn lucky.

5.No growth.

Since you’ll be working on support projects with no mentorship/guidance, there’ll be no chance for growth and to learn new skills.

If you start enjoying the work, you’ll end up becoming stagnant and there’ll be no growth.

Unless you don’t get any other offer other than from a service-based company and you badly need money, don’t join any service-based company as a fresher.

If you get an offer from a service-based company with less than 5LPA then consider yourself jobless.

Summary

Never join any Service based company as a fresher, since you’ll be paid less, you’ll not get to work on development projects and you’ll have no growth and mentorship.

If you are offered a package less than 5LPA at any Service based company, just think once before you join, you are underpaid.
