A Time Before Filters

What if I told you, there was a time when social media apps did not have the option to add filters? It was not that ago to be fair. Think 2010s. I was in college at the time and honestly, it was great.

People looked like their pictures in real life. There was a certain honesty about how people presented themselves and embraced everything about them and others. It is safe to say, that is NOT the reality we are living in currently.

In college, the tradition we had was that on a person’s birthday, you would upload the “worst” or most ridiculous photo you had together and tag them on Facebook. Everyone laughed together and we all joked about how we would “get them back” next year.

Today, I have a friend who has to approve every photo before we post it. It has to undergo a “quality control” process before Instagram sees it.

I am getting ahead of myself though.

Expectation vs Reality

In 2024, people are terrified of what they look like. I’m being dramatic, but if you think about it, how often does one take a photo and upload it?
