Artist Perspective: The Concept of “Identity” is Highly Overrated

Individuals are often told that they need to find their “True Identity” to be truly “happy” in life. The concept of Identity is sold as a prerequisite for establishing Personal Agency. In the realms of Politics, Marketing, Religion, and many other realms, the call for people to find their “True Identity” is little more than a ploy to motivate people to accept a convenient label that is attached to a prepackaged ideology, ready for easy manipulation.
