Hidden joys in impromptu actions

She sat with her friends on Marine Drive, a popular walkway in Mumbai, the ground slightly wet from the recent downpour.

Beside them, was a couple, shrouded in darkness, making it impossible to define their age. For the next hour, she kept observing them, she couldn’t hear their conversation but the variations in their voices gave a sense of the mood between both.

In the beautiful weather, she and her friends began singing romantic songs. Initially, the couple looked uncomfortable and looked around to protest, thinking they were being targeted. But when they realized the girls were simply enjoying, the couple relaxed and started enjoying the impromptu concert. As they paused, wondering aloud what song to sing, the lady turned and suggested an old romantic song, perhaps their favourite and hummed along as the singing began

When the song ended, the couple stood up, warmly smiled at the girls, silently thanking them for live music and walked away, hand in hand.

She reflected on how even for small moments, she could be a part of someone else’s world. The performer in her felt content, a joy greater than any digital likes she would ever receive.
