DENZEL WASHINGTON once said — "One of the most important lessons in life is to have an attitude of gratitude." Those words resonate perpetually, especially when we realize that expressing gratitude may be a norm for some persons, but for others, it is quite tedious to appreciate gifts, effort, or support. Unbeknownst to them, when we express gratitude, we demonstrate humility and appropriate elation to the giver.

The little things matter. Like waking up in the morning and saying "good morning" to the first person we meet. That’s not an empty, baseless expression but a wish that someone who may have experienced an egregious night deserves to enjoy a better morning. This is similar to expressing gratitude for things done for and on our behalf or for the gift of life, work, friends, and family. Hence, my style of thanksgiving is quite simple and straightforward.

First, by simply saying "thank you" or "I appreciate your effort" or "I am extremely grateful" and being thankful for the opportunity to be alive and healthy. Simple, straight, succinct. Everyone loves to be appreciated, but when you do it, ensure it is sincere and heartfelt or don’t mention because the riposte is a waste of words and illustrates ingenuity and malignance.

Secondly, by reciprocating kind gestures, granting favors and being munificent because when we gain societal advantage or prominence, one of the best ways to express our gratitude is by helping the less privileged, those in need of our assistance, or undergoing perilous times, in whatever way we can muster. With the barest minimum, we can elicit joy in someone’s heart or put a smile on another’s face.

It pays to be grateful. Gratitude does not ruin lives or torture lips but builds character. So why are we hoarding it? Imagine being the recipient of ingratitude? It is not the best feeling. Remember, the energy we give is what we manifest. Even when paying for a service or an employee performs a task efficiently, appreciating the effort makes one a paradigm of benevolence — an alluring character.

So, how do you express gratitude? Kindly let us know in the comments. Maybe we can learn from you and improve our portfolios. Cheers!!!
