How I De-Allergized My Boyfriend to Cats
If you’re a cat lover allergic to cats, there’s still hope.
If you’ve followed me before, you know that my brother’s cat had a little sexcapade that led my family to take care of four kittens, born in early April back in France. I watched them grow through webcams and flew from Canada to see them when they were only two days old.
So, obviously, when I returned to my adopted city, Toronto, I decided to adopt two of them once they were weaned. The only remaining problem — aside from the logistics of relocating two kittens across the Atlantic —: is my boyfriend’s cat allergy.
At first, I didn’t believe him. My boyfriend is from Latin America, and in my experience, people from there are rarely allergic to anything — it’s pretty amazing! Over the years, I’ve met friends from Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Gand uatemala, and not one of them has ever asked for gluten-free or complained about being unable to eat certain foods.
So, when my boyfriend claimed to be allergic to cats, I half-expected him to pull a ‘Chandler move’ — you know, like when Chandler pretends to be allergic to dogs because he doesn’t want to admit he doesn’t like them in front of the other Friends.
