SELF IMPROVEMENT
The Sustainable Beauty
Beauty can be organic and natural
You heard me right.
Yes, it is about beauty…
Have you ever noticed how beauty has the power to turn heads? It could be a stunning landscape, a breathtaking piece of art, or even just a person who exudes radiance. The mere mention of the word itself can stir something in us. Don’t you agree?
The beauty market is growing at an alarming rate. The global beauty market is projected to grow by billions of dollars by fashion experts, especially in the skin and hair care markets. The social media is adding fuel to the fire. They are aggressively showing more and more beauty-related content.
Because we believe, money can buy beauty!
We all want it and sustain it too…
1️⃣ Beauty is ancient
We all know about the beauty secrets of Cleopatra, the Egyptian Queen!
She used to take a luxury bath in donkey’s milk.
While turmeric, amla (gooseberries), neem, mung beans, saffron, and milk
Beauty is ancient and organic. It is a blessing we all have.
I am not against using beauty products. But, the truth is cosmetics can only enhance what we already have as a natural asset. The 80 / 20 rule of beauty is, it is 80 percent natural and 20 percent can be enhanced through cosmetics.
2️⃣ Beauty concepts change with time.
It is all about trends
How can we break this cycle of going after the greener pastures of beauty?
This is possible only by accepting the organic nature of beauty and nurturing it to grow and glow from within.
3️⃣ The Sustainable beauty
Beauty is sustainable when it springs from the inner source and manifests externally.
Have you seen some men and women looking beautiful naturally?
They have glowing skin. Proper weight and gait.
It doesn’t happen without any effort. Natural beauty is maintained with the strict discipline of daily exercise, meditation, self-control, healthy food habits, and great sleep hygiene.
I have written a story on sleep hygiene. You may read it here.
4️⃣My Grandma’s Beauty Secrets
My Grandma is 93 years old now and leading a healthy life, walking without a stick and reading without glasses.
Last week I visited her in Kerala.
She came and sat near me and took a look at my salt and pepper hair and exclaimed,
‘’You must be using a shampoo on your hair ?’’
I said,
‘’Yes ‘’.
She pointed towards the Hibiscus flowers on the fence and told me,
‘’Tomorrow before taking a bath, make the ‘’Taali ‘’ from hibiscus flowers and their leaves and apply it to your hair’’.
‘’Taali ‘’ is the ancient and organic version of Shampoo. It is made by making a paste of tender hibiscus greens and flowers, this paste is applied on your hair before a bath and washed off in the water. (not hot water, never wash your hair in hot water ).
Hibiscus is a natural moisturizer, and it heals and moisturizes your scalp.
It is alkaline, hence by removing the damage done by the acidic shampoo hibiscus ‘’Thaali ‘’helps in maintaining the PH of the scalp.
Another beauty secret of my Granny is using fresh coconut milk on the skin.
Fresh milk is squeezed from scrapped coconut and it is applied on the skin as a moisturizer and anti-pigmentation remedy.
A great face scrub is made by mixing moong bean powder and turmeric powder and making a paste with water. This is applied on the face and later washed off with cold water.
Coconut fiber is used as a bathing scrub and exfoliator.
Sesame oil is applied to all the skin before the bath and it is scrubbed off with a handful of coconut fiber and mild soap.
These are some of the beauty tips from my Granny that help in maintaining sustainable organic beauty.
