Conferences, workshops, seminars, summer schools, exchange programs and many other such opportunities provide a great deal of exposure, confidence and an unforgettable experience!

Research based events show a zoom-in view of the fields and a chance of meeting intellectual minds. Unfortunately, for students, attending such events turn out to be pretty expensive. Thus, having understood the importance, not only the conference committees but also many other organizations help students, early-stage researchers, academicians to be a part of such gatherings and share their knowledge with the peers and help them embark on new journeys in their lives.

With this list we are making sure that our readers have access to such resources.

1. ACM-W scholarships for women to attend research conferences.

2. Selby Traveling Fellowship — awarded to distinguished scientists for public lecture/seminar tours and to visit scientific centres in Australia.

3. AIFS Scholarships — provide grants and scholarships to students under AIFS programs.

4. CIEE study grants — cover specific programs under CIEE.

5. AWM (Association for Women in Mathematics) Travel Grants — Go for the October cycle!

6. International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) Deadline : August 16, 2016

7. Science and Engineering Research Board — International Travel Support (ITS) — provide financial assistance for presenting a research paper or chairing a session or delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event (conference/seminar/symposium/workshop etc.)

8. Center for International Co-operation in Science (CICS) — provides partial travel fellowship/registration to scientists/researchers in various disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Medicine, Engineering, Space Science & Technology, Computer Science and Engineering and other related areas.

9. Department of Biotechnology, Government of India — Travel Support Scheme for financial assistance to scientists/ researchers involved in Biotechnology for presenting their research papers in international conferences/ Seminars/ Symposium/ Workshops which are being held outside India.

10. Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) (International) — Travel Grants to junior researchers who are currently conducting an experimental project in basic biomedical research and wish to pursue a short-term research stay or attend a practical course of up to 3 months.

11. Indian Council of Medical Research — Financial assistance for presenting research paper or chairing a session/delivering a keynote address in an international scientific event to Non-ICMR Bio-medical Scientists.

12. National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) (DAE) — Provides partial or full travel grants to attend international conferences & summer schools.

13. Indian National Node for Neuro Informatics — Allows student travel across laboratories, attending seminars, courses, and workshops.

14. All India Council for Technical Education — Provides financial assistance to attend International Conference / Seminar / Symposium / Workshop in Engineering and Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Management, Pharmacy, Applied Arts & Crafts and such other areas as per the AICTE act.

15. Sir Dorabji Tata Trust — Financial assistance to people to attend conferences, workshops etc in the areas of medical treatment, education, travel and sports.

16. The World Academy of Sciences — Grants for Scientific Meetings held in Developing Countries. Deadline : July 31, 2016 for the meetings to be held from January — December 2017

17. International Mathematical Union — Commission for Developing Countries — provides grants for Mathematical Science based conferences organized in developing or economically disadvantaged countries. Deadlines :

  • September 1st, 2016 (Decisions will be made by October 15th, 2016)
  • November 1st, 2016 (Decisions will be made by December 15th, 2016)
  • January 15th, 2017 (Decisions will be made by February 28, 2017)

18. Xerox Research Center India — provides travel grants to students to attend international conferences.

19. DAAD — has a large number of programs for students to go for funded internships, semester exchange, to do research for an year or more, for graduate and post-graduate studies in German universities.

20. The Emerging Nations Science Foundation (ENSF) — provides travel grants, fellowships and conference support.

21. International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) — travel grants to foster neuroscience research in less well-funded countries. Keep checking their page for updates.

22. Kirkhouse Trust — provide travel, training and research grants to do research in field related to biological sciences. Check back again their site for updates.

23. Google Travel and Conference Grants — provide funds to students and researchers to attend conferences in the US and Europe.

24. United States — India Education Foundation (USIEF) — helps Indian students with short-term study programs in the US universities.

25. The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program — for Indian school students to spend time in the US.

26. Charpak Exchange Program — Allows students to visit any university in France for a semester.
