Everyone on Medium is aware of the ‘Medium Partner Program’. And the requirement of 100 followers to participate. You may have gone on a ‘follow for follow’ binge in order to reach the 100-follower mark. However, it will not benefit you in the long run. Every follower you gain after that 100 is meaningless unless they engage with your content.
How does Medium Partner Program work?
Medium claims that “Partner Program writers are paid every month based on how members engage with their stories. This is determined by member reading time.”
What does it mean?
Scenario 1: Assume you have 1000 followers, but none of them read or engage with the articles you publish. You earn nothing.
Scenario 2: Assume you have 100 followers who are “fans”, who regularly interact with your articles. You will earn money.
So, ‘readership’ is key.
You need ‘fans’ not ‘followers’.
