Dele Weds Destiny’ by Tomi Obaro is women’s fiction about the friendship of three Nigerian women. Zainab, Funmi and Enitan first met at university in Kaduna (northern Nigeria) and, now in their 50’s, they are reuniting at a wedding in Lagos. But despite the outward joy of their reunion, each woman has a secret. Enitan is struggling with a divorce from her Oyinbo man. Zainab is barely coping with her husband’s declining health. And Funmi… Well, Funmi has it all – the fancy house in Lekki, designer clothes and trips abroad – and she means to show it off at the wedding of her daughter, Destiny.

My review

Reviews aren’t my favourite things to write and that means I don’t share my experience with this amazing book.

I love when a book just sucks you in from The first line.

From the cover it’s the reunion of three friends for a wedding but as you read we get to meet these women, how they met and how they’ve remained friends throughout.

Because look at this gorgeous cover

I love that Tomi Obaro celebrates Friendship and Motherhood in this book, it highlights the importance of mothers, though Enitan, Zainab and Funmi are friends you can see how they were raised and how it affects their children as well. While Enitan was scared of how her mother’s love suffocated and scared her, ironically Funmi craved for that love and got it from outside whereas Zainab was doted upon by her two mother’s (her father’s wife) when her mother died.

In turn for their Children, Enitan gave her child free rein to express herself even if that meant not knowing her daughter, Funmi barely knew her daughter and was practical with her.

I mean look at this cover

Overall

This was an amazing read definitely, definitely would recommend this read for anyone looking for books on Friendship. This is your book.
