1. Log in

In order to use the system, visit Reading Lists Online and log in with your University username and password. You and your students can access your reading lists via Blackboard or the Library Website.

When you log in for the first time you will see the Reading Lists Online welcome pages. We recommend that you read through this information and follow the instructions to add the ‘Cite it!’ button to your bookmarks toolbar. You can then use the ‘Cite it!’ button to easily add citations from the web, such as articles, videos, or books.

To add ‘Cite it!’ from the Reading Lists Online welcome pages:

  • Ensure the bookmarks toolbar is showing at the top of your browser (if it isn’t showing, follow these instructions to add it).
  • Follow the instructions on the third welcome page to drag and drop the ‘Cite it!’ button onto your bookmarks toolbar.
  • Click ‘FINISH’.

You should now be logged in to Reading Lists Online and have added the ‘Cite it!’ button to your browser. If you haven’t added the ‘Cite it!’ button, this is covered later in this guide.

3. Add the ‘Cite it!’ button

You need to add the ‘Cite it!’ button to your bookmarks toolbar. You may have already done this when you first logged in. If you haven’t already added the ‘Cite it!’ button you can do so by following the steps below.

  • Ensure the bookmarks toolbar is showing at the top of your browser (if it isn’t showing, follow the instructions below).
  • Click on your initials in the top right-hand corner of Reading Lists Online.
  • In the drop-down menu, click ‘Cite it!’. This will open a pop-up.
  • Drag and drop the ‘Cite it!’ button onto your bookmarks toolbar.

The ‘Cite it!’ button should now appear in your bookmarks.

If your bookmarks toolbar appears, you can skip to the final section of this guide. If your bookmarks toolbar does not show, you can add it manually:

  • In Chrome, press Ctrl+Shift+B, or, click on the Tools icon in the top-right corner and select “Show bookmarks bar”.
  • In Firefox, right-click on the Home icon and ensure “Bookmarks Toolbar” is checked.
  • In Internet Explorer, press Ctrl+Shift+B, or, right-click on the Tools icon and select “Favourites bar”.
  • In Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+B.
  • If you are using a Mac you may need to press ⌘+Shift+B in the above.

You should now be able to see your bookmarks bar. Follow the steps to add the ‘Cite it!’ button.
