The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), the non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of the interactive arts representing its 33,000+ membership base, held the 21st Annual D.I.C.E. Awards on February 22nd, its annual ceremony that brings together the interactive entertainment industry to honor the year’s biggest achievements in video games.

The 21st annual D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony, included industry professionals who attended the event live and game fans worldwide who tuned in for the live stream. The show was the culmination of the annual three-day D.I.C.E. The Academy membership honored games in 24 award categories, with Lone Echo/Echo Arena being one of the few games to be honored with nominations for three DICE awards, and ultimately taking home two of them.

  • Immersive Reality Technical Achivement

In addition to the speech made by our CEO, Ru Weerasuriya, the directors of Lone Echo and Echo Arena had some additional comments about what it means for the team to have their work recognized at the D.I.C.E. Awards:

The reception to Lone Echo and Echo Arena has been incredibly humbling and a huge testament to the talented team at RAD. Not only winning both Immersive Reality DICE awards, but also being a final nominee for the overall Technical Achievement, was a massive accomplishment for a project that took as many risks as it did. It’s not often that such a new medium like VR comes along, with radically different ways of telling stories, transporting people into immersive worlds, and engaging in rich social experiences with people around the word. I’m excited about what the future holds for virtual reality, and really proud that the team at RAD will always be able to look back and count themselves among the pioneers in the early days of the new medium, helping to inspire others to find new and exciting ways to push beyond.

— Nathan Phail-Liff, Art Director

I am extremely proud of what we were able to achieve with both Lone Echo and Echo Arena. It sounds cliché, but just being nominated for three DICE awards this year was amazing! I had the biggest smile on my face when they announced we won the awards for Immersive Reality Technical Achievement and Immersive Reality Game of the Year. It felt really good. We couldn’t have done it without the creativity and commitment from everyone at our studio and the support and guidance from our friends at Oculus. Cheers!
